You can with Suggested Items.

The post How to add items to your partner’s child account list with Suggested Items appeared first on Giftster and was written by Giftster.

]]>
Ever wish you could add a gift idea to someone else’s list, including your partner’s child account lists? You can! We call them Suggested Items.

Suggested Items are just like regular items, except you can secretly add them to another group member’s list, and they won’t see what you added, but other group members can. How fun is that?

It’s a way for both parents to contribute ideas to a child’s wish list.

What are Suggested Items?

 • Suggested items appear separately at the end of each list
 • The list maker cannot see these items on their My Lists view
 • Each Suggested Item includes the name of who added it
 • The member adding it can edit or delete it and mark it reserved or purchased
 • Deleting a list will also delete the Suggested Items added by others to that list
 • Changing list privacy to private means nobody can see the Suggested Items for that list
A view of a list with Suggested Items on it.
A Shop For view of a wish list with Suggested Items.
The list maker’s view of a wish list with Suggested Items on it.

How do you add Suggested Items?

You must be in a Giftster group with someone to have the privilege of suggesting items on their list. Lists with shared or public privacy display Suggested Items and the member names who put them there.

 1. Add suggested items while viewing a group member’s lists on Shop For.
 2. You’ll see the button to add a Suggested Item at the bottom of a wish list when you’re logged in and you belong to the same group as the list maker.

Can I see a list of all of the Suggested Items I have added?

View all the Suggested Items added by you, from all lists, in one place, where you can edit or delete them as you like. Look for the Items I Suggested list under My Lists. It’s Giftsterrific!

What are some other uses for Suggested Items?

 • You know something your sister really wants but she didn’t put it on her list. Now you can.
 • You bought something that wasn’t on your brother’s list and you don’t want someone else to buy a duplicate. Add the item as a Suggested Item and mark it purchased by you. Now you are on record for buying it.
 • Your uncle has a list but never puts anything on it. Now you and your group can put your heads together and suggest items for him.

Happy suggesting!

The reimagined Giftster App for iOS was just released. We’re so excited to bring you new and improved wish list-making capabilities in this big update.

Let’s take a look at 3 new ways you can add items to your list.

1. Add items to your wish list from Safari

Imagine this…you’re browsing your favorite store online and find an item you’d like to add to your Giftster list. Before the new update, you’d have to copy and paste the link into the Giftster app. Now, all you need to do is tap the share icon and select the Giftster app from the share sheet. Choose your list and add it to Giftster without leaving Safari.

Watch how fast it works when adding an item from Amazon.com below.

Tip: See how to add Giftster to your share sheet

2. Add items from your favorite retailer’s app

Now, let’s say you do most of your shopping at Walmart or Target and use their app. You can add items to your Giftster wish list from many retailer’s apps too.

Find an item you’d like to add and look for the share icon. This will bring up your iPhone’s share sheet.

Tap the share icon on your favorite retailer's app to add it to Giftster.

Tap Giftster and you’re off to the races without ever leaving your favorite store’s app. If you’re not seeing Giftster in your list of apps follow these steps to add it.

3. Find & fetch items from the in-app browser

And finally, a third new way to add items to your Giftster lists. This method is right in the Giftster app. Search the web using Giftster’s in-app browser for anything you’d like to add in Find & Fetch mode. See how it works below.

Haven’t tried Giftster yet? Get the free iOS app today. Giftster is also available on Google Play or at giftster.com.

Happy gifting!

Safe for School: Birthday Treat Ideas https://www.giftster.com/news/safe-for-school-birthday-treat-ideas/ Thu, 13 Apr 2023 16:38:56 +0000 https://cms.giftster.com/?p=10989 Make your child's birthday at school memorable with Giftster's safe and enjoyable list of birthday treat alternatives.

The post Safe for School: Birthday Treat Ideas appeared first on Giftster and was written by Giftster.

]]>
What’s the one day of the year your kids just can’t wait for? You guessed it – their birthday! Celebrating this day with their friends and family is a powerful way to create positive memories linked to higher self-worth and life satisfaction.

However, planning a birthday party during school days can be challenging. From pesky allergies to strict school rules, there’s much to consider. To make your decision a little easier, we’ve compiled a list of enjoyable yet simple and safe-for-school birthday treat ideas.

1. Bubble-blowing parties

Kids love bubbles. An impromptu bubble-blowing party in the classroom or playground could be a great way for your kid to celebrate their special day with friends and classmates. Give the teacher notice so distribution can be timed for the right time, mainly before recess or dismissal.

2. Arrange a treasure hunt

Treasure hunts are very versatile activities that can take place inside the classroom or outside. Arrange with the teacher to send the class on fun and exciting adventures to find specific items purposely hidden. Apart from making their birthday celebration memorable, participating in a group treasure hunt in school helps teach your kid the value of teamwork while promoting social interaction and problem-solving skills.

3. A class dance

Ask the teacher if you can send in a dance song and have the whole class do it. Create unforgettable memories busting out iconic dance moves to your kid’s favorite tracks, including the hokey pokey, the chicken dance, or the booty slide. A birthday dance in school will bring out the fun in your child and allow them to socialize and learn while having fun. Consider inviting other members of your school’s staff to join in too!

4. Organize for show and tell time

Show and tell is a fun and interactive way to showcase something unique about themselves and their family. Ask the teacher if you can have a show and tell time for your child on their birthday. You can make posters or they can bring in one of their favorite items.

Here are a few ideas to help your child figure out what to bring:

 • An item found in nature
 • A favorite doll, toy, or stuffed animal
 • A treasure from a trip they took
 • A photo of their family, friends, or a pet
 • A painting, sculpture, or artwork they created

5. Read a book

One of the most powerful ways to celebrate your kid’s birthday is to read their favorite book to them in school. Books expose the child to new words and ways of using language. They also help them learn more about the world around them. You can bring a favorite book for the teacher to read to the class or invite a special guest to read the book in class. However, be sure to ask for the teacher’s permission well in advance.

Finally, despite the busy school calendar, you can still make your kid’s birthday fun and enjoyable. The few birthday treats discussed above are sure to create positive memories and make your child feel loved and celebrated. Social functions such as school birthday treats are an excellent way for your kid to form bonds and ignite friendships.

From all of us at Giftster, we wish your loved one a happy birthday filled with joy and fun!

Giftster Members Share The Best Gifts They’ve Received Using Giftster https://www.giftster.com/news/giftster-members-favorite-gifts/ Tue, 28 Jun 2022 21:43:06 +0000 https://cms.giftster.com/?p=9636 We asked members to share the best gifts they were given using Giftster. Here's a few top picks to inspire your wish list building.

The post Giftster Members Share The Best Gifts They’ve Received Using Giftster appeared first on Giftster and was written by Giftster.

At Giftster, we’re reminded constantly of the sheer joy and delight a great gift can bring someone. A thoughtful gift can make a big impact in someone’s day-to-day life. A needed item can make life easier and save a friend money. And best of all, giving a gift you know the recipient wants empowers you to give with confidence.

We asked Giftster members to share the best gifts they were given using Giftster. We received so many wonderful responses and truly enjoyed reading them. Below you’ll find a few of the hundreds of gifts members shared. We hope these ideas inspire you as you build your wish lists.

My favorite gift i have gotten using giftster was my dog Ollie! Both of my siblings and I as well as my Dad all put a Yorkie as our number one gift on our giftster page for 2 straight years, and our persistence ended up convincing our parents that we really wanted a dog. The Giftster app is such a great concept and works great! Here is a pic of Ollie 🙂

– Jasper V.
Ollie the Yorkie

The best gift I received using Giftster was the Drunk Elephant Moisturizer. When you read that, it might sound boring to you. But when someone gets you something that you use every day (and it’s not the cheapest either) really not only means a lot but just in it’s simplest form, helps you out.

– Shaelyn F.

I am not sure I can choose just 1 as the best! If I have to choose I would have to say them all because I choose them!

– Jennifer B.

A cooking class where I learned how to use herbs and spices properly. It changed how I cook AND when I told my relatives about it, they changed their cooking as well, no longer sticking to exactly the measurements in a recipe but adjusting to add more flavor. And even better, I was able to use my gift to create some wonderful meals for the people who gave me the gift so everyone benefitted. The best gift for the receiver is one that you remember, that fits your personality in the moment, and shows that the giver knows you and cares about you. The best gift for the giver is one that you can tell is appreciated in the moment and comes up again and again.

– Laura C.

The best tangible gift I received using Giftster is my spice rack. I love to cook and use it almost every day! The best non-tangible gift I have received is watching my family (and myself) opening gifts we really want and need. Giftster makes this so much easier. It is the perfect way for a family like mine to stay updated on everyone’s current likes! Thank you for this.

-RaeAnn S.

Travel backpack with packing cubes that I can use on all of my upcoming travel adventures!

– Lexa W.

I was able to get some pretty great vinyl records from family. They always have a tough time remembering what I am looking for and what I already have in my collection so using Giftster was a perfect way to help them know what I was wanting.

– KC K.

The best gift I received using Giftster was a moka pot. My passion for making and serving good coffee has grown and receiving the moka pot has allowed me to step up my coffee game. The amazing part is that my family who lives in a different country was able to buy this off my list because of Giftster!

– Katie M.

My I love you almost as much as tacos shirt! Because no one knew that I was a deadpool fan until then and they didn’t know that I loved tacos so much! I was able to express myself and I felt awesome because I felt accepted by that team member who got it for me!

– Alice F.

The aero garden herb grower because I am able to grow all my own fresh herbs from home for fresh healthy cooking for family and friends!

– Sabrina A.

A life size human skeleton to help me study in PT school! Also doubles as cool decor haha!

– Savannah S.

An entry way shoe rack. I had recently moved into a new home and for Christmas, I added an entry way shoe rack to help make my home feel more like “my” home. I had just recently gotten out of an abusive relationship and had to move all my belongings. This new home represented a fresh start for me. My mother had also recently gotten remarried and introduced my step-sister to the family. My step-sister happened to be my Secret Santa for Christmas, so getting this gift to call this place “my” home from my new sister was just everything I needed in that moment.

– Deborah S.

My favorite gift was a simple pillow. It was a much needed and highly desired gift that my family felt confident purchasing thanks to Giftster!

– Dayna F.

LL Bean shirts. Beautiful plaid colors, fine workmanship, comfortable, and durable. A staple in my everyday life.

– Gerald R.

Giftster has allowed me to share what gifts I’ve wanted with many family members. The best gift I did receive though was plane tickets to see my family member in California.

– Kaylani T.

A Squatty Potty. It is a life changing experience to have a Squatty Potty in your bathroom.

– Reilly Williams

A wall hanger for my fiesta ware cups and saucers – it gave my son the ability to feel confident in his gift that he gave to me.

– Mary M.

The best gift my daughter has ever received is her ball pit! Seeing how happy she is to climb in and play just melts my heart. She just turned one and can tell the difference between the different colored balls. It’s a great gift for learning and fun!

– Samantha J.

An unexpected gift from my former team that I lead which were unpurchased items from my wishlist (silk scrunchies and a face mask).

– Chamari D.

I participate in a Random Act of Kindness group on Facebook and we share a Giftster list so that we can surprise strangers with gifts. Last month I received an unexpected package of indie nail polishes made by a seller on Etsy. They are so fun and sparkly and it makes my day whenever I wear them!

– Kate J.

The humidifier and the backpack that I received for Christmas were the two best gifts. My family was able to pick out the stuff that I exactly wanted and they found the links feature very helpful. I use the humidifier everyday and it helps me sleep better. The backpack is so well designed, it makes carrying my laptop for my business trips very convenient.

– Namita C.

I love crafting, but my brother refuses to buy giftcards for me to pick my stuff out. With Giftster he was able to know exactly what items I wanted from the craft store 🙂

– Courtney L.

A Nat King Cole vinyl album – it takes me back many years and makes me feel like a kid experiencing the magic of Christmas with my mom, dad, brother, and grandma.

– Jesse K.

Fleece lined crocs – for obvious reasons – best gift ever.

– Evelyn B.

A new book bag and lunch box. I’m a substitute teacher and needed something to keep all my stuff together and my lunch box was pretty embarrassing. I had a second grader tell me to “ just keep saving up and I would be able to buy one”. Very precious advice. My secret Santa bought it for me when he saw it posted. I love it!

– Shawn J.

A pony! I put “a pony” on my Christmas list as a joke and my husband got my a “My Little Pony” which technically fulfilled my gift wish😁 That is the kind of inside joke that makes me laugh, which is one way my husband really shows that he loves me.

– Laura P.

A sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to share their favorite gifts with us.

Look no further than these melt-in-your mouth cinnamon rolls.

Whether you are an experienced baker or just getting started, there is something about the joy that baking brings us – especially when you get to share your creations with others!

In honor of World Baking Day, we’re sharing one of our team member’s favorite recipes you’re going to want to try out with your family.

Forget having to wake up 4 hours early just to have fresh cinnamon rolls. Simply make the dough and filling ahead of time and allow the dough to come to room temperature and rise in the morning before baking.

Love to bake? We’ve included a few baking tools and accessories throughout the recipe you may want to add to your Giftster wish list. You never know who might want to surprise you with a gift to make your baking experience truly wonderful.

Find the links to these baking accessories in the recipe instructions below.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Let’s get started.

 1. Begin by making the dough by hand, with a stand mixer or go high-tech with this handy bread machine.
 2. In the bowl of a stand mixer: add yeast, milk, and sugar. Let sit for 5-7 minutes to activate. Mixture will be bubbly and somewhat fragrant. Then add in butter and eggs. Attach dough hook to mixer and add in flour and salt.
 3. Kneed/mix on medium-low speed until dough begins to come together. Add in more flour, a tablespoon at a time, only if needed to make sure dough does not stick to the bowl. Knead dough until smooth but still soft, about 6-7 minutes. Alternatively, knead dough by hand if not using a stand mixer.
 4. Shape the dough into a ball. Then butter (or use baking spray) a large bowl. Add the dough into bowl and turn to coat dough. Cover dough tightly with plastic wrap and let dough rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 ½ to 2 hours.
 5. Once dough has risen, punch dough down and turn out onto a floured work surface. Roll out dough into a rectangle (about 14×9 inches – you can use this silicon baking mat from Walmart) with the longer side facing you. Use a little extra flour if dough is sticking.
 6. Filling: spread the butter over the dough and then sprinkle brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt evenly over the dough leaving a 1 inch border at the top and bottom. (I like to mix my brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt into a bowl so it’s easier to spread evenly.)
 7. Roll up the dough into a log starting with the longest side furthest from you. Pinch seams of dough to seal. Cut the log crosswise into 8 equal slices using a sharp knife.
 8. Butter/spray a 9×13 inch baking pan. Arrange the slices with the cut side up in the pan. Cover with plastic wrap and transfer to refrigerator overnight, 8-12 hours.
 9. Remove from refrigerator and let rolls sit out to reach room temperature for 1 to 2 hours, until puffy, before baking. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Remove the plastic wrap and bake rolls until lightly golden brown, about 30 minutes. While cinnamon rolls bake, prepare icing.
 10. Once rolls are done, set them on this extra large hot pad, immediately pour icing over rolls, and serve. We love to serve these with fresh coffee (either iced, or hot depending on the season) and a side of fruit or bacon. Enjoy!

Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love. Parents and their children, kids and their friends, and of course couples exchange sweet treats or romantic gifts.

But what about all those single folks out there?

It’s easy to feel a little lonely when others are receiving roses and chocolates. Luckily, you can celebrate Valentine’s Day with your friends, so everyone feels a little special.

At Giftster, we have some tips for a virtual gift exchange and a few other fun, non-romantic activities you and your friends can enjoy on Valentine’s Day.

Pick a secret Valentine

Secret Santas are popular. Why not try the same type of gift exchange any time of the year, including Valentine’s Day? It’s a fun surprise for a group of friends.

And it’s easy with Giftster. Simply visit our Secret Santa Generator & Gift Exchange Draw

Don’t let the “Santa” in the name fool you – you can use this tool for any type of gift exchange year-round. Plus, there’s no cost to join, and all participants have the ability to create a wishlist of items. You don’t even have to get together to draw names, since it’s all virtual – unless you need another reason to see your friends.

Watch how to draw names using Giftster’s Secret Santa:

Then, on Valentine’s Day, have a get-together and exchange gifts. Everyone can have a fun surprise opening their presents and discovering their Secret Valentine. Plus, the gift exchange will spread some non-romantic love and appreciation to all the participants.

Plan activities for the gift exchange

No one likes to feel left out on Valentine’s Day. Celebrate friendship instead of romance by planning some activities together, to go along with your gift exchange.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Glamorous night out

Get glammed up for a night of delicious food and drinks. Or just wear your best heels and hairstyle to get some fast food. Who cares what you eat? The point is, you’ll look beautiful and have a memorable time with friends.

2. Cozy night in

Wear cozy, comfortable PJs for a sleepover-type get-together. Watch movies, make popcorn and ice cream sundaes, and enjoy some facials or manicures. You really can’t go wrong with an evening dedicated to comfort and friendship.

3. Crafts and cocktails

Gather some supplies like glitter, glue, and magazines, and create your best uplifting Valentines for each other. You can also get crafty with drinks. Try making some DIY Valentine’s cocktails, like strawberry champagne floats or a lady rose

4. Bonfire

Has a fiery romance fizzled out? Are you struggling with feelings for an ex? If what you need on Valentine’s Day is to gather friends and burn an old photograph or two, we won’t judge. Just stay warm (and safe).

Of course, don’t forget about your gift exchange. After all, giving a present to your secret valentine is the perfect, supportive balance to any glam, makeovers, glitter, and old flames.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

More memorable Valentine’s Day gift ideas

Here are a few bonus unique gifts ideas found beyond the Midwest I couldn’t resist including.

Valentine’s Day experiences

Would you prefer an experience over a gift? Create some extraordinary moments with the ones you love by giving the gift of an experience or add one to your Giftster wish list too.

Here are a few experiences to consider:

Take your gift presentation up a notch

Take the extra step to dress up your gift this Valentine’s Day. Look for some stylish gift wrap, washi tape, or dazzling gift bows. Sometimes the effort you took to personalize the gift says more than the gift itself.

And don’t forget the card complete with a heartfelt message from you.

If you need a little help with the gift wrap, check out these gift wrapping videos.

Here’s one of my favorites – gift wrapping with a built-in greeting card slot. Wrapped in just 5 minutes.

The Minnesota Center for Book Arts

Aside from a collection of artists’ books, prints, and creative gifts, Open Book in Minneapolis, MN is an event space that frequently has workshops, readings, and a variety of interesting events. At their online shop, you’ll find a variety of greeting cards made by local artists. Shop greeting cards

Zucchero and Paper

This paper goods shop on Etsy is owned by designer Ashley Wong from Chicago, IL. All of her cards are created using gouache paint and ink.

Paper Source

More to love from Paper Source including clever greeting cards.
