Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and it’s time to find that little (or big) something for the special sweetie in your life. But where should you start? Here are a few ideas – some classic, some unique, all aimed to bring more smiles and smooches than grimaces and groans – that will help you check your Valentine’s Day gift giving off your list.
The Classics – Jewelry, Chocolates & Flowers
If jewelry is on your shopping list, you can never go wrong with a gift from Helzberg Diamonds, Kay, Jared, Blue Nile, or (GASP!) Tiffany’s if you’re really going for something special. If you’re looking for something more personal that can be customized and that is trendy, you’ll want to check out Lisa Leonard Designs, Coordinates, and Mignon & Mignon.
Ah…what would Valentine’s Day imagery be without the heart-shaped box of chocolate? Does your sweetheart lean more towards Fannie May or See’s? While I enjoy both, my current candy crush is on M&M’s because of all the personalization options. And it’s a pretty sweet treat for the littles in your life.
Flowers are always a wonderful Valentine’s Day choice, whether it’s for your significant other or someone else in your life that you love like parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Retailers like FTD, Teleflora, 1-800-Flowers, and ProFlowers have their Valentine’s Day flower pages up and ready for you to order, and your local florist will also have a fabulous selection available for you. If you’d like to send something that will last a little longer than flowers, consider sending a plant instead. That way, they’ll be reminded everyday of how much you care.
Fun Non-Flower Bouquets
There are several fun non-flower bouquet gifts that are perfect for Valentine’s Day. One of my favorites is Edible Arrangements who combine something sweet with something healthy in a lovely gift. Other fun and edible bouquets include Man Crates Salami Bouquet, Cookies by Design Cookie Bouquets, The Many Man Beef Jerkey Bouquet, and From You Flowers Ultimate Candy Bouquet. Is there a yarn lover in your life? Jimmy Beans Wool has a large variety of Yarn Bouquets. You can also make your own bouquet! Over the years, I’ve seen instructions for making bacon roses and really like this bacon rose tutorial by Jess Pryles. How about a sock bouquet or scrunchies or other little toys? So many options! Here is a quick how to about making a sock bouquet by How Does She?, but you could apply this to other items as well.
Custom Valentine’s Gifts
There are several customizable gifts for Valentine’s Day, but these are two of my favorites. Mapiful helps you create a custom printed map that helps you tell your story (for instance, a map where you and your sweetie first met). I think custom keychains are also a very sweet way to say I love you without breaking your budget. There are several shops on Etsy that sell beautiful handmade and customizable keychains so you can find the perfect one.
For Kids & Families
One of my favorite Valentine’s Day gifts to give my kids is books. Books are such a forever gift to give! Amazon has a wonderful list of Valentine’s Day books for children of all ages. I think they also make great gifts for children to give to the people they love as well. Then, they can read the book together, which is an even more meaningful gift.
Have you seen the sweet little Valentine’s Bear from Lego? This is another great gift for kids and adults alike. I also love Shuttefly’s photo puzzles where you can take your favorite picture and make it into a jigsaw puzzle. These are also great gifts that will have you spending time together.
From the Heart
Share how much you love someone with these guided journals. While it would be lovely to give this to someone already filled out, I think it’s even better to have just a few pages filled out at first, and then return to it over so often to fill out another page or two. What a beautiful way to document all the love you have for each other!
Dinner & Movie
Maybe you’re thinking dinner and a movie out, and that’s swell, but sometimes a night in together is just as special. If you’re looking to surprise your sweetie with something from the kitchen, check out All Recipes, Good Housekeeping, and Delish for some great meal ideas. Pick out a favorite movie to watch or order up a movie you’ve been looking forward to. Simple and sweet, and sometimes that’s all that’s needed for a memorable Valentine’s Day.
How Giftster Helps with Valentine’s Day
I always recommend putting a few gift ideas on your Giftster list for every gift giving occasion, but I think what helps the most for Valentine’s Day are your gift preferences. Enter in your sizes, favorite colors, and other preferences. Put down in writing what things you would really prefer not to receive (for me, it’s anything vanilla scented) so your super special gift giver will be able to give you a super special gift that you’ll love. And if you need a little help finding the perfect gift for your honey, send them an anonymous note asking them to update their list and preferences.
